Gardening...

We began working on our garden in the beginning of May.  This is what it looked like when we started.  Hard dirt and lots of weeds!  Except for the green stuff in the back right corner...those are strawberries that have now taken over the garden.

Larkyn loved helping mom and dad till and rake up the garden.

Until she got her hands dirty...hmm...wonder where she gets that from? Daddy?

"Look Mom, we could plant the tomato plants in this corner."

Oh how fun it will be to garden with Larkyn in the future!

May May got a kiss from the "Gardener"

Later on in the day Larkyn was helping Daddy and Scott pick out the top soil for the garden.

"Where's all the dirt?"

We waited until Memorial Day weekend to plant most of our vegetable plants because the weather was so cold.  In our garden we planted tomatoes, green, yellow, and red peppers, onions, carrots, strawberries, oregano and basil.  We also planted some flowers, marigolds included, with the hopes of keeping little critters like rabbits away! Larkyn has loved the garden and enjoys helping me pull weeds and pick "buberries" (strawberries) as she calls them now (July 14th).  We go wash them off and she gets a couple small strawberries to eat.  All I have to say is the word "garden" and she takes off around the house to go check it out.  We look forward to the days when she is helping plant and pull for real, as well as helping us choose what will go in our garden.  Below is a picture of our garden now.  We have some peppers coming in, our onions and carrots are coming in well, and we have already picked and eaten a handful of strawberries.

Our flowers in front of the house have also done quite well this summer.  I was experimenting with my new camera and took some up-close shots, which I posted below...
